What do the Milanese do for the weekend? They put on their too-short jean shorts (yes, unfortunately they are popular here too) and head to Lake Como. But if you want to sip Sangiovese at a cafe on the water’s edge with Italy's wealthy and famous, the dress code is casual fabulous. And preferably, arrival is via a beautiful wooden Riva boat. We hoped no one would notice our pedestrian arrival at the station in Varenna. But I must say, after an overnight flight and a two-and-a-half hour train ride, I thought we cleaned up pretty well...
